Australia’s best youth sailors will descend on Adelaide in January for the 2016/17 Australian Youth Championships at the Adelaide Sailing Club from January 10 to 14.

Regatta documents such as the Notice of Race and online entry is now available for this regatta and can be found at www.youthchamps.org.au. With a little less than a week until entries close, youth sailors are encouraged to register now before the late fee is introduced.

Registrations officially close on Sunday December 4, with late entries received after that date until January 10, attracting a significant late fee.

Adelaide Sailing Club is gearing up for the influx of youth sailors and they are no stranger to hosting large state, national and international regattas.

Adelaide Sailing Club vice commodore and Australian Youth Championships event chairman Malcolm Hughes has been involved with racing at the proud Adelaide club for nearly 18 years and has seen some of Australia’s most accomplished sailors compete at their regattas.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to have been a race officer for nearly two decades and have been a part of regattas where some of Australia’s sailing ‘greats’ have competed, including Mat Belcher, Nathan Outteridge and Elise Rechichi,” Hughes said.

“In addition to seeing some of Australia’s best sailors develop, I’ve also been able to watch the progression of our own sailors as they advance from junior to senior level, some of which will be competing in this year’s Australian Youth Championships.”

Adelaide Sailing Club is located within Adelaide’s main summer beachside areas of Glenelg and West Beach and the area offers multiple accommodation venues, a range of dining options and has the airport only 10 minutes away. For more information about accommodation and local facilities, click here.

Adelaide Sailing Club commodore Darren McPherson said he was proud to see the culmination of Adelaide’s history mixed with the new venue and youth sailors that this regatta would bring.

“Our club has a long history with juniors and youth, they’re considered an important part of our club culture so we look forward to complimenting that with youth sailors from around the country visiting our club,” Darren said.

In addition to competitor registration, Adelaide Sailing Club is also looking for more volunteers to assist with the event. Volunteer positions vary from on-water course boat drivers to beach marshalls and after racing BBQ extraordinaires. Once you’ve registered for the event, you’ll be placed into a volunteer position depending on your experience, qualifications and preference.
