The 60th Australian Skate National Titles have been decided after six heats with Western Australian father-son duo of Brett and Cameron Fannon wrapping up the series with a narrow victory in Heat 6 on ‘Tasty Fish’.

Sailed in ideal conditions of 10-12 knots, it was a fantastic race with ‘Tasty Fish’ leading from start to finish, however David Luck and Damien Vlotman on ‘Any Which Way’ pushed them all the way.

They made up a lot of ground on the last triangle to go over the line just 2.16 seconds after the leaders, however it was not quite enough to keep the series alive.

Michael Winney and Emma Sills on ‘Take It Easy’ recovered from a bad start to finish third and Silvio Fico and Mick Minutillo on ‘Gobstopper’ had their best result of the series finishing in fourth place.

With a northerly forecast for Friday it has the potential for breezy and challenging conditions for sailors, although the winner has been decided the minor places will be decided in Heat 7 so it should be another excellent race.

The fleet has been close throughout all the racing during the Skate Nationals.
