After four heats, the 60th Australian Skate Championship, hosted by the Ceduna Sailing Club, has developed into a two-horse race between Brett and Cam Fannon on ‘Tasty Fish’ and David Luck and Damien Vlotman on ‘Any Which Way’.
The championship has been sailed on the picturesque waters of Murat Bay in the Far West Coast town of Ceduna with 11 competitors from both New South Wales and Western Australia that have made the journey to compete.
And in true Ceduna style, there has been no shortage of wind with Heat 1 cancelled and conditions seeing Southerly winds from 9 to 25 knots over the first four heats.
Fannon dominated Heats 2, 3 and 4 with Luck runner up in all of those races. The re-sail of Heat 1 saw Luck win with Fannon finishing runner up in a close race.
Heat 5 will be vitally important and a victory to Fannon will see him edge closer to his third Australian Skate Title with Luck looking to win to keep his hopes alive of an 11th national title.
