Four-way tie after first day of racing

BY HARRY FISHER

Four schools are locked on seven wins apiece from nine races after a successful first day at the 2016 DeckHardware Team Sailing Nationals in Goolwa, South Australia.

Scots (NSW), Westminster (SA), Hutchins Gold (Tas) and Friends Blue (Tas) had glamour first days to be sitting on top of the ladder and have given themselves every opportunity for finals positions come Saturday.

St Leonards College (Vic) is currently the first placed girls team in fifth overall with six wins, tied with Christ Church (WA) and St Virgil’s (Tas).

It gets a bit tighter from there on with a total of 13 schools on either four or five wins from the nine races.

A total of 109 races were sailed, which was a great effort by the race management team in what was a relatively consistent southwesterly Goolwa breeze.
